Business Copy EVA is a local replication software product for the EVA5000 arrays providing snapshot and clone set-up and management. Business Copy EVA creates point-in-time copies of storage volumes, called Business Continuance Volumes (BCV's) using the snapshot and cloning capabilities of the array firmware and provides a centralized and easy to use management interface for local replication operations. Business Copy EVA combines the snapshot product license together with an intuitive, easy to use graphical user interface into a single orderable product. Additional features of the latest version of this product include support for VCS version v3.020/3.014, new licensing based on and entry level 1TB or a new Unlimited Capacity user per EVA LTU option, plus the ability to Upgrade to Unlimited Capacity user per EVA LTU, if desired. Also HP Business Copy EVA has added support for cross VRAID snapshots and a new integrated backup job scheduler.
The functionality for local replication or point in time copy creation resides within the array firmware. A local replication solution can be implemented via several methods, each of which offers varying levels of functionality and automation. HP Business Copy EVA helps generate or automate the creation of Business Continuance Volumes using the snapshot and cloning capabilities residing within the array firmware. The differences lie in the degree of automation of the process and the requirements for user-defined scripts required to implement the process.
